The goal of the Peer Leader program is to foster self-confidence and develop the students’ leadership skills. This year the Peer Leaders were selected by interested students completing an interest form and recommendation by the faculty and staff at Markham Place. Students selected for the program are successful academically, have strong leadership potential, and are viewed as positive role models within the school. The Peer Leaders will run CPR’s for the younger grades once per month and help to organize activities during theme weeks, such as the upcoming Week of Respect. Peer Leaders also serve as mentors for younger students to assist them with their organizational skills, study habits, or social skills. They meet with their mentee once every six-day cycle. In the spring, Peer Leaders participate in Moving-Up Day, serving as tour guides for the incoming 5th graders and their parents.
